ORC Week 2: The Beach Cabin Attic Floors

Hi there! Hope you are all doing well!! We are having a fun-filled week with field trips and dentist appointments. We did manage to get started painting the Beach Cabin floors for the ORC project this past weekend and I’m hoping to finish them up soon….

As a reminder, this is what the Beach Cabin Attic looked like previous to our purchase…

Attic Makeover Before

And this is what the attic looked like when I shared the ORC: Week 1…

Attic Makeover Progress

A couple of things that I’ve been turning around in my head… In person, I actually love the white washed ceiling and walls. They were done so well by the previous owners and look brand new. But, for some reason, in the photos (and sometimes in person too), they have a pink tint to them. I am hopeful that it is just the brown floors and the yellow walls reflecting in an odd way. Fingers crossed this is the issue.

Anyway, we landed on the same floor color that we used in the guest room (you can check out those BEFORE and AFTERs here.) It is just about my favorite color of all time… Okay, I’ll share just one photo here…

And here is how the attic floors are turning out… (They will definitely need two coats.)

Beach Cabin Attic BEFORE

As I was painting the floor around the white pole (I have no idea why it’s there but I think it’s a water pipe so that could be good news for a future attic bathroom!), I had a fun idea related to the location of the beach cabin and the general theme of my favorite artwork throughout the cabin. Of course, I immediately texted our contractor with my plans and, since he’s been with us for over 5 years and is used to these sorts of crazy 10pm texts, he agreed to help me 🙂 I think the kids are going to LOVE it!

The other part of the room that I kept thinking about and searching, searching, searching for this week was the wallpapered wall in the original plan (check that out here)… Turns out all wallpaper is a lot more expensive that I had originally thought… Also, is there such a thing as wallpaper math? I feel like that is definitely a thing. Despite my disappointment, I do think I’ve come up with a solution that will look nice, add a little pattern that I’m craving on the wall, and come in at a fraction of the cost.

Don’t forget to follow along over on my Instagram and Facebook for updates in between these blog posts. It has been so much fun to read through the other entries for the ORC. There are a lot of talented people out there and they’ve already got my mind racing about rooms I’d like to tackle next. So inspiring! You can check out the other participants by clicking here.

That’s it for this week’s updates! Have a great weekend and I’ll meet you back here in a week.
