Kitchen Shelf Styling- Autumn Decor

Hi there! The weather turned suddenly earlier this week. It was the perfect motivation to try out some autumn decor on our open kitchen shelves, courtesy of The Counting House. Kitchen Shelf Styling is a great way to refresh the space as the seasons change. Before we begin, let’s give a collective good-bye to these late summer shelves in our modern traditional kitchen. (You can also check out this post for the Spring Shelves and this post for the Winter Shelves.)

Late Summer Shelf Decor

Nothing says late summer to me like harvesting that goes on here in Michigan. I love the spine of Super Simple from Half Baked Harvest as a lovely and timely starting point. (Side notes: We are hoping to do some apple picking this weekend for applesauce and desserts but will also be trying the Fudgy Ice Cream Pretzel Cake because we aren’t all the way ready to give up on summer. In other words, we fully plan to have our cake and eat it too. And some apples as well.) The new beet print by Amy Carroll ties in with the book and the muted colors in the mixing bowl, berry bowls, oil cruet, and planter. Of course, we need a clock in the kitchen now that we all have a few places to be.

But on to the Autumn Decor! We thought it would be fun to do the shelves two ways. One way includes a dark and moody palette for autumn decor. The other incorporates a more light and airy feel.

Autumn Kitchen Shelves: Dark and Moody

Let’s start with the dark and moody shelves. How cute is Millie just sitting there keeping her eye on the heart of the home?!?! The olive recycled glass is a perfect way to add subtle interest. Incorporating a few cookbooks with more hearty meals is also a sure sign that fall is here. The hand-painted terra cotta vase transitions easily between seasons but is perfect with the faux fern for autumn. I will forever adore the black ceramic containers and the salt and pepper mills. The beet photography in fall colors and a bowl full of apples in the glow of a candle appropriately titled, Warm + Cozy, is the icing on the cake… or the carmel on the apples? Something like that.

Autumn Kitchen Shelf Styling: Light and Airy

Next up is the light and airy autumn decor. A trip to the farm in the fall is always a good idea and these shelves remind me exactly of that. Sweaters, pumpkins, and hayrides. Oh my.

The Le Creme Cheval print provides the watchful eye in this scene and could remain well through winter. The locally-made speckled tumblers complete with thumb spots are perfect for apple cider, spiced or otherwise. Rustic food and desserts make a return in the fall and the two books are perfect for adding some new recipes to your repertoire. The gourd glass vases are another favorite than can carry your decor all the way until you put up your tree in December. Okay, November.

Moving on. The autumn serving bowl is a lovely additional to any countertop. And, since I don’t see myself cooking real artichokes anytime soon, the faux give the perfect hint of a muted green to the scene. The bread basket can work as decor or for holding some aforementioned bread.

Which Kitchen Shelf Styling do you prefer? Dark and Moody or Light and Airy? Or, are you like me and holding on to every last bit of summer? Let me know in the comments and have a wonderful weekend! I’m hoping to be back next week with a fall mantle and autumn-inspired living rooms shelves.
