Over the past year, we have slowly updated our teen daughter’s room. This has included a new dresser, rug, and bed. Oh, and the vanity is fairly new too. It looks so grown up! But, I guess that’s the way time works.

Per usual, this had a slow roll out, partly because we were waiting for the perfect piece and partly because at some point, you just have finish a project.

This room has received small updates throughout the years. We can’t forget the year the the glass pendant shattered and we learned the important lesson that even though the inhabitant of the room can handle glass, little brother visitors cannot. Thus, this lovely (shatterproof) pendant came to be. Last year, we put together a vanity (which had to be started immediately and the day before leaving for spring break…of course).

Last fall, we purchased this bed and could not be happier with it. It smelled so good right out of the box, which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise! Our daughter and I put it together over the course of a couple of days. It adds a soft and sophisticated feel to the room.

Initially, I thought that we would need to paint the room a warm white or a lovely blue-green color, but our daughter really liked her current color and I wasn’t going to argue with saving myself paint money and days of labor.

I also suggested long horizontal art above the bed, but she seems uninterested in this so I think I will let that be as well. (Although I couldn’t help but hang something above the bed for the photo’s sake.)

Having been on the hunt for a new dresser for several months, we finally landed on one that wasn’t really on our radar until the week of purchase. This happens sometimes.

To tie it all together, I purchased this beautiful rug with subtle, calming colors. Even though it is considerably larger than the old rug, it somehow makes the room look bigger. Magical.

The final touch was hanging this charming mirror in the corner. I love how it makes the room even more light and airy by bouncing light.

We updated and added some accessories and the room was complete! (Until we change something up in it again next year as has been the case with this room.)
