Powder Room Wallpaper

Good morning! I am so excited to share our Rylee + Cru Powder Room Wallpaper from Lulu & Georgia with you today. Finally!

Also… I don’t think this is meant to be bathroom wallpaper. I think it maybe even says somewhere that it’s not. But I loved it. And I had my heart set on it going in our powder room, which I decided wasn’t technically a bathroom since it doesn’t have a shower or bath in it.

Wallpaper Love

Do you ever love something so much and just know it is so right that you figure you can love it enough for everyone who lives in the house? Or visits. Or looks at photos of the space. That is this Rylee + Cru Tropical Wallpaper for me. For bigger purchases, I usually need a lot of encouragement and ask R if he likes it, etc, etc. That was not the case in this instance. When Lulu & Georgia was having a sale earlier this fall, I just went for it!

It goes so well with our kitchen cabinets, and, since the door is often left open and the powder room is off of the kitchen, it is great that they coordinate!

I would have loved to have done a round up of wallpaper that I had in mind for this space. Really, though, it was always going to be this one There weren’t any runner ups. Maybe this one from McGee & Co. because it seemed like it might play nice with the kitchen cabinets as well. Or this one from Lulu & Georgia because it has the watercolor effect that I adore. But that’s all.

The Best Part

The best part about this wallpaper is that it is both unexpected and also feels like it could be original to our 1920’s house. Two of my favorite things. If you are a guest in our house, don’t be alarmed if I hover nearby to hear your reaction when you open the door to the powder room. That’s normal, right? It just feels so magical every time I open the door. I could not be happier with how it turned out.

Print Size

A large print in a small space could have possibly made the room feel smaller or out of proportion. However, it seems to do the opposite. It almost makes the room feel bigger. Like I said, it’s quite magical.

This print size and pattern actually ended up working really well with our imperfect plaster walls too. They aren’t straight or smooth in a lot of places. I did sand as many of the little bumps as possible but I feel like there will always be some limits in these older homes.

I also like that the wallpaper is a different scale than the floor tile. You may may remember from previous posts that I am a fan of mixing masculine with feminine. The handsome, original black and white tile somehow marries the more feminine tropical wallpaper in perfect harmony.

The Finishes

Wallpaper and Brass Sconce

Another aspect I can’t get over is how well the wallpaper goes with the various finishes in the powder room. We have a brushed brass sconce that looks very classic against the wallpaper.

We also have a chrome towel ring and chrome faucets that look very fresh and clean with the wallpaper. It all goes!

Even the storage basket harmonizes perfectly with the tropical wallpaper.

The Details

Now let’s talk about the colors in this tropical wallpaper. They’re perfect. They’re colorful and muted all at once and look like they’ve been hand-painted with watercolors. Seriously, they are the best colors. And the detailing on the leaves and flowers makes them so interesting to stare at. This is just one of those things that is even better in person.

Wallpaper that Compliments

We had our entryway wallpapered last year (by the same woman- she is amazing!), including the ceiling! You can check it out here. I love that wallpaper too, but it is no longer available. If I were looking for wallpaper for the space today, I think that this paper (also from Lulu & Georgia) compliments our powder room paper so well.

That’s All

Okay, there you have it! My dream wallpaper installed. On to painting the dining room and learning to DIY picture frame molding.
