Tween Girl Bedroom Update

I think I mentioned a while back that we played musical beds this past winter. Everybody got an update but our daughter’s room was the most work. It was worth it, though! Her tween girl bedroom is coming along so nicely. You can see the “before” of her Vintage Beachy Bedroom here.

Modern Lighting | Bubble Lights

The Lighting

Perhaps you remember us trying to decide on a bubble light for her room. (You can see the round up here.) Of course, we ended up with one that wasn’t on the list that we finally got working. Our daughter loves the design but mostly likes it because of the remote, from which she is able to lay in her bed and adjust the warmth/coolness of the light as well as its brightness/dimness. Installation/watching my friend Gretchen figure out the installation was hard work! If you get this, I’d recommend hiring an electrician and reading all about the light fixture before purchasing.

Painted Furniture | Bed Makeover

The Bed

This is an inherited bed frame. When I looked online, I was surprised by the pricing of four-poster beds these days. I love one from Anthropologie (linked below). It feels updated and the deep indigo color is beautiful.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Because our daughter said that she wanted a “modern” room (which can mean 1001 different things to 1001 different people), we had to dig a bit further. Basically, she wanted something new. The light. So, since that was taken care of, we went to the paint store in search of a new color to jazz up the bed a bit. She requested black. In my head, we were just going to grab an off the shelf shiny black paint. Then, she came to me with the most beautiful charcoal gray/black color sample. It was gorgeous. And, I later realized, sort fit with the indigo Anthropologie bed I had pinned. The color is by Magnolia Home and is called Aspen Stone.

Bedroom Makeover | Magnolia Paint

We had it mixed up in a cabinet paint. I’m not sure if that was the right thing to do, but furniture and cabinetry seem to go hand-in-hand more than wall and furniture. Maybe? I also grabbed a primer since I would have to lightly sand and prime the bed before applying the paint. I should have had it tinted. I knew better. It all worked out fine but required an extra layer of the Aspen Stone to cover it. I still need to touch up some places that I missed. Painting the bed without a ceiling light in the room wasn’t the best approach.

The Rest of It

The teardrop chair is old and I can’t find it online anymore. I linked one below that is similar and I actually think it would go even better in the room now that the bed is painted.

We purchased new bedding and I love the slight texture it adds to the space. I also bought both of the kids some weighted blankets earlier this winter, and they have been able to fall asleep and stay asleep more easily.

The Future

This is definitely going to be a slow role kind of room transformation. For some reason, painting all of the details on the bed and then the lighting installation/watching Gretchen figure out the lighting installation took it out of me. Next on the list will be to figure out the dresser situation. We will also likely spray paint the teardrop chair a charcoal color. I’d love to incorporate a vintage rug (or at least a lookalike vintage one) and a really long velvet lumbar pillow too.
