Top Travel Beauty Products

First and foremost, let me say that beauty products are not my area of expertise and many of these have been recommended to me by friends and family or just happened upon by chance. However, I do travel often and while the days are typically quite casual as I wander and do the tourist thing, the evenings often involve business dinners or large social gatherings. The products listed below allow for casual days and fancier nights and are easy to pack (and most of them meet the FDA requirements for carry ons but you should double check before packing).

Let’s start with skin care. As a teenager who wasn’t a consistent user of sunscreen, loved the beach, and played in all day tennis tournaments, I’m still playing catch up in this area. However, now that I’m well into my 30’s, I’m trying to get smarter. I love the Ole Henriksen Glow on the Go line. I purchase the Traveling Wonders kit, which combines all of the best (in my opinion) washes, gels, serums, and moisturizers in a clear travel bag. Done and done. Not pictured, but another of my favorites, is the Pore-Balance Facial Scrub. It is formulated with some truly luxurious-feeling ingredients including volcanic Icelandic sand; it actually warms up with just a few rubs in your hands!

Speaking of skincare and sunscreen, Clinique’s City Block is another favorite. Since having kids, I get those annoying dark spots on my face in the summer. City Block definitely helps to minimize this. It is one of the most effective facial sunscreens that I have used.

Sometimes, if I am just wandering around or exploring a city, I just wear the City Block and also some mascara. Having been a fan of L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara for quite some time, I’ve noticed that there seems to be minimal chunking and it stays on all day without a need for reapplication. Another easy thing about this mascara is that I can pick some up when at/placing an order through Target or just add it to my next Amazon delivery.

While we are talking about Target’s make-up section, let me share my favorite every day foundation. Among other good qualities, No. 7 Stay Perfect Foundation has sunscreen, is hypoallergenic, and goes on super smooth. I also found a lip gloss that I have been really liking there. You can find it here

For fancier events or a slightly more involved routine, I love Bobbi Brown’s Instant Full Cover Concealer, Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick, and Skin Foundation Stick. I really haven’t had to reapply when wearing these products, but if you wanted to, they would be super easy to stick in a purse or carry-on and reapply as desired. If I’m feeling super lavish, I put on this eye liner.

To add a little color, Bare Minerals Loose Powder Blush is easy to apply. (Sometimes I even skip the brush and just use my index and middle fingers.)

As far as hair care goes, again, I’m not too fussy. I usually just use the hotel shampoo and conditioner. Recently, though, I began using Aveda’s Invati Advanced Scalp Revitalizer. I love bringing the Revitalizer with me, not only to hopefully thicken my hair (fingers crossed) but also because it smells amazing! Invati can be applied to either wet or dry hair. So, if I’ve been out exploring all day but am going to a nice dinner at night and don’t want to wash my hair again, I just do 16 squirts, rub it in, and get what fells like a little aromatherapy in the process.
