Boring House Things

Okay- I actually don’t find this to be boring at all lol. We purchased this duvet cover for our son’s room. It really makes the room look so much more polished!

I also just ordered this sheet for his bed and this one for my daughter’s room. I think that these rooms could very well become The Company Store rooms. (I wouldn’t be mad about that at all.)
As mentioned above, we recently refreshed our son’s room. We love the duvet cover and highly recommend it, but you’ll never guess what the star of the show is …. the plug in sconces. We strongly encourage reading before bed for a multitude of reasons, one of which is to calm down from busy days. These sconces are perfect because he can just flip them off instead of getting out of bed to turn off the overhead light (or, more likely, try to fall asleep with it on). Just in time for those chilly, cold weather nights that are right around the corner.
We were in need of a new shower curtain and I was so surprised to find the one at this store. It is perfect.
I finally asked our friends what scent they were using in their cottage because Raj and I both commented on how much we loved it. This is the scent and it is my absolute favorite.
Favorite Fall Outfits

A happy surprise… I didn’t expect much from these jeans when I purchased them, but they have quickly become my most worn pair this fall… they are lightweight, comfortable, and really quite affordable! And while you are shopping, don’t miss out on this cozy pull over. Our daughter told me, “If you’re going to wear it that much, you should probably get another one.” Okay!

I have owned and loved this sweater for over a year. As someone who gets itchy quickly, I wasn’t sure I was going to love it, but it is soooo soft and comfortable. In fact, I wear it so often, that I did, in fact, purchase a second one in a different color.
As happens, I ended up influencing myself with the Fall Capsule Wardrobe. I purchased this dress– I think it will work well for both Thanksgiving as well as other fall events.
Fall House Decor

I don’t think that I bought anything new for fall decor this year and our hydrangeas dried so nicely in the glass vase. I love a good faux stem as long as there are natural elements in the room as well in order to keep it from getting too plastic/fake.

I replaced the lamp shade in our kitchen with a pleated, gingham shade; it is right in line with that understated autumn feeling I’m going for this year. And just look at that beautiful sourdough from a sweet friend. You can check out her new business The Sourdough Creative.

Oh, wait. I did order these pillows for our living room chairs. I am so happy with how much they have subtly contributed to our fall living room feeling. It wouldn’t be the same without them! (Not specifically fall, but we are all also really pleased with the new floor lamp. It is perfect for the quickly approaching shorter fall and winter days!)
I ordered a few items for Halloween. When Raj reorganized me, our Halloween bin went missing. It’s such a short holiday that I decided to just do a few things to the exterior of our house. The weather was so nice so far into October that my summer flower pots are going strong; I think I’ll just add these bats and these fun lights to them. Some creepy cloth over the front door entry and I’m done.
DIY

Every once in (great) while, I feel like trying a little DIY. To take the pressure off, my strategy is to DIY with something that I’m considering changing anyway in case it isn’t a success. Luckily, this one worked out! The project was to add fabric to the frame mats on our staircase photos of the kids. It was pretty easy and there are a lot of different variations that you can find on Pinterest. I purchased my fabric from Hobby Lobby. Initially, I thought spray glue would be easy and work great, but it was really quite headache inducing for me. So, I switched to a fabric glue which ended up working just as well and was just as easy (if not easier) that spraying a strong adhesive glue. Lesson learned.

BOOKS
This Oak House was a lovely read with the most beautiful photos! It is all about Annie Meyers-Shyer’s (Yes- as in daughter of Nancy Meyers) renovation of their California home. If you like details, this book is for you.
I bought this entertaining book for my mom and then promptly decided I needed one too. The chocolate chip cookie recipe is delicious as is the whipped ricotta crostini. I’m especially excited to dive in and try more recipes over the holidays.
