Bonus Room: Board & Batten
Let’s take a break from the Gift Guides and Holiday Everything to take a look at a friend’s Bonus Room transformation. It was a fairly quick turn around and it turned out sooooo good! The absolute best part of it all was that I got to hang out with one of my dearest friends!
**As always, keep in mind that I am not an expert and this is simply a hobby blog. I am only recollecting what we did for the space, not giving advice for your projects. You should always take the proper precautions and educate yourself properly before DIY-ing.**
The BEFORE & The PLAN
Before I get too far ahead of myself, let’s take a look at the room when they first moved in this fall.

Jen’s daughter chose the sweetest wallpaper. It is so whimsical! They had also picked out new carpet for the space (spoiler- it is so soft!!). We measured (-ish, as I do) and Jen ordered the supplies. The board and batten worked out so well because the depth of the pieces lined up almost perfectly with the baseboards and the height was just where we wanted it. (We decided it would look better if it stopped slightly before the slope.) The paint color for the board and batten as well as the trim was chosen based on a color drawn from the wallpaper.
The Order & TheWork
After measuring and ordering the supplies, Jen painted the trim in Benjamin Moore Just Beige. She also painted the ceiling in Sherwin Williams Alabaster in a flat sheen.

The wallpaper was then installed- how pretty!

Jen finished the walls by painting the Just Beige to approximately where the board and batten would be. She basically eye-balled it perfectly!

We then lined up the boards along the wall to ensure that they were spaced evenly and weren’t covering up any of the outlets. We adjusted as necessary. Then came the fun part! We used liquid nails and a level to place the boards in their select spots. Once the vertical boards were placed, we were able to lay boards horizontally at the top to trim it out.

When we finished doing this, we went back and used the nail gun to reinforce the liquid nails. The other side of the room got the same treatment. Jen then filled in the nail holes and gave the board and batten one final coat of paint.
The last step was the carpet installation.

The After & The Sources
