The Best Gifts for 7 Year Olds
It is so fun to have nieces and nephews that are younger than our children! We can live vicariously through them and are able to hear about all the new ideas and inventions. (Tin Can phone, I’m looking at you.) Below are some things that my kids loved, some that my niece and nephew love, and some ideas for the upcoming holiday season. Personalized Bead Kit
I actually bought this kit almost a year ago… and then promptly “lost” it in our basement storage room. It all worked out in the end, though, because I sent it along with my teen while she was nanny-ing this summer and it was a huge it! All’s well that ends well.

My niece and nephew are really into squishmallows these days. Because my own kids were quick to max out their stuffed animal quota (as I would guess is true for 99.9% of all 7 year olds), I bought these as a (hopefully) useful alternative.

Origami
It was always so fun to see what parents came up with for the school party stations. One year, the kids learned (and got really into) Origami. This kit looks like just about the cutest way to introduce your 7 year old to the art.
LED Lights
Okay I know my kids were so lucky to have a mother who limited the number of stuffed animals they could have out and also really did not want LED light in their rooms (I briefly folded on this). But, look at what I bought my niece and nephew LOL. Just kidding. This seems like a great compromise because the strips aren’t tearing drywall and plaster off the walls, are still super fun, and make bike riding even more thrilling than it already is!
Playground Games
Some things never go out of style, and hula hoops and jump rope games are two of those things. I still can see the kids coming home from school and practicing in the driveway.
Legos
Being 7 years old is a big year for lego builders! This kit for 7+ ages is perfect and has me wondering where it was when our kids were 7 years old. When we used to go to Chicago every Christmas season, we would let our kids get a small lego set at the Lego Store in Water Tower Place to work on at dinner. It was so great because we knew that we would all enjoy a slightly more leisurely dining experience. With this 3-in-1 kit, we could have maybe even attempted a longer brunch the next day?!
Dig Kits
Oh how my son used to love to dig for shiny rocks. There were a lot of questions about if something was real gold. It was a mess I was more than willing to clean up because it kept him busy and happy.

Book Idea
This spring my niece and nephew came to watch our daughter at her tennis matches. A couple of times, they brought along a book similar to this one. It was so cute! (And super fun to look at with them and hear their thoughts on the different dog breeds too.)
Tin Can Phone
I was so confused when my niece and nephew were talking about calling someone on their tin can phone when that someone wasn’t going to be anywhere near them. But then I looked the tin can phone up, and, I mean, this was a pretty amazing find by my sister-in-law. It is a Wifi landline and free to call any other Tin Can Phones on the parent-approved list. The kids can also call regular phones for a monthly fee (again, only if they are on the approved list). Oh, and strangers and scammers cannot call. Can I sign up too?
