The Quarterly 09

Summer is in full swing (and I won’t accept any other sentiments until it is over on September 21). What a great summer it has been! A European trip, some home updates, a few new summer outfits, and books that I have been using as references for a few friend projects that I get to be on text for. Oh, and my skin care holy grails, Things that Caught My Eye, and a Coastal Cottage Girls Room Design Board.

The Quarterly 09: Travel

Our family of 4 traveled to Spain in mid-June. It was a great 8-day trip, complete with a city stay (read all about Barcelona here) and a coastal retreat (Tossa de Mar information can be found here). Below are a few photos 🙂

Home Projects

I (with a lot of help) wallpapered our back staircase. I love how it turned out! I am tempted to either finish out the little butler’s pantry with the wallpaper or to paint the gray walls Studio Green to match the cabinets. It likely won’t be attempted until the kids are back in school, though. There are just too many other fun things going on.

July has been a good month for guests at the Beach Cabin. Of course, the one window air conditioner went out on a 90 degree day, 30 minutes before our first guests arrived. Luckily, we were able to run to the store to quickly replace it.

But on to prettier things! I took advantage of a Serena & Lily sale, and purchased some quilts for the Beach Cabin loft. I was very tempted by these; however, the fact of the matter is, a pattern is easier to keep clean and that makes all the difference in a place where I want to clean/do laundry minimally (the beach is always calling my name!).

The Quarterly Outfits

I really didn’t need too many new clothing pieces for summer. I placed an order and am loving these shorts and this cardigan pictured below. Tom’s gifted me a pair of sandals (also pictured below), some sneakers, and a pair of slip ons and they have been in constant rotation.

These shorts are from last year but they are still a favorite! Unless you want to roll your shorts (I didn’t but I do), size down a size or possibly even two.

My parents gave me a gift card for Mother’s Day (of course they did!) to a local shop and while shopping with my mom, she found this adorable jumpsuit- it’s perfect for summer!

Oh, and this lovely dress is en route to me. I had to size down 2 sizes and will likely have to add a button but I love the classic look (and it is on super sale so not a big deal to alter if needed).

My Thoughts on Amazon

Amazon. What a thing. I have not had much success purchasing clothing from Amazon and really try to spread the wealth when shopping. In other words, Amazon is not an automatic for me. That said, of course, you will find Amazon boxes on our front porch from time to time. We either forgot something, are in a hurry, were influenced, or even have a few things (kids vitamins) on repeat. If you are curious about our Amazon purchases, I linked them in my Amazon Storefront here. (I didn’t link my clothing fails lol.)

The Quarterly 09: Design Books

I’ve been lucky enough to be on a couple of text chains with friends for their projects. I love Pinterest. And I also very much enjoy paging through a real book. I love all of the pattern play in this book. And I don’t think anyone does kitchens better than these designers (I loved watching their show on Magnolia network too).

Skin Care and Make Up

I am in my mid 40s and have never been good at trying new products. Or being consistent with products. Or taking great care of my skin. Etcetera, Etcetera. That said, almost everything that I have ordered from MERIT has been a win. Most of my products are already from there, but I am going to try to up my eye game with this set.

My skin is fairly sensitive and other people’s Must Haves rarely agree with my skin or the scent or consistency aren’t just right. That said, there are four products that my skin really likes. This hyaluronic acid is my favorite (and I’ve tried a few). This moisturizer works and doesn’t irritate my skin. Vitamin C for my skin just makes sense to me. I like this eye cream and/or this serum. My skin is happy with either.

The Quarterly: Design Board

I though it would be fun to throw together a design board for a kids’ room with the comforter I wasn’t brave enough to purchase as the base. But then I found another duvet cover that worked better for board, and it sort of took on a life of its own. (Scale and colors may be inaccurate IRL.)
