The Quarterly 08
Well we are back from Spring Break and officially have a driver. Time is a thief. Not to waste it… Here is what I have to share- a spring birthday tablescape and menu, what we did in the Bahamas with our teens and parents, a book, a show I loved then hated, a show I hated then loved, Spring Things that Caught My Eye, and a Design Board.

Spring Birthday: Tablescape & Menu

We have a 16 year old. How on earth does that happen?! We had a great day celebrating her. Because she had friends to drive around in the afternoon (IYKYK), we celebrated with our families in the morning. I kept it easy on myself with premade quiches, roasted potatoes, sausage bites, cinnamon rolls, a salad, & fresh cut fruit. There were Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas for the adult crowd too. And a scene stolen straight from The Counting House– a shell holding mini rose prosecco. Oh, and our friends’ daughter made the sweetest cake!

For the table setting, I picked up these subtle but unique placemats (the color options are beautiful!) to place over our European linen tablecloth, simple glass vases with baby’s breath and ribbon, my grandmother’s water goblets, and then our everyday dishes (so similar) and silverware. We spiced up the birthday cake candles this year with sparkler candles . For the kids’ table, I used an old tablecloth, our typical placemats, and peony tulips.

Spring Break: The Bahamas

We go to The Bahamas every other year with my family. Actually, I have been going with them since I was at least 11. Needless to say, it is a very special place with very special people. You can read past posts about our usual activities. The weather was the rainiest it has been in a while and the ocean was angry for a few days, making it difficult to do any excursions or water sports. We didn’t mind. We still got some sun (“looks like you 4 got what you came for” per a stranger at the airport haha), learned to play hearts, bet on the Final Four, and got lots of family time. We loved it all.

When I turned 18, my mom took me out for dinner and a glass of wine at The Ocean Club. The restaurant was where the courtyard in the photo is now. Since then, we’ve gone back in some form or another. Raj, my parents, and me. Raj and me. Just my parents. We decided to give happy hour at the Dune Bar with the kids a go. They did great!
Spring Break: A Book
It’s official… Fredrick Backman is my favorite author with his authentic, flawed, and very human characters. His prose and storytelling is unmatched and masterful. Several people have said that Beartown is their most liked of his books. I can see why.
Spring TV I loved… and did not
I loved Love Story when I began watching it and then at about Episode 8, it took a turn. Nonetheless, it was a good show for revisiting the 90s and the life of JFK Jr and Carolyn Bassette Kennedy. It was worth the watch. I was even inspired to buy these shoes (lol, palm to forehead).
Shrinking has completely grown on us. It has lots of good feel good moments and endearing characters; humor mixed in with serious topics. The only thing we don’t love is all of the swearing. There is a lot. It does seem to get better as the seasons progress (or maybe you get used to it?). Be that as I may, I really look forward to watching it.
Spring Things: Caught My Eye
Spring Things are some favorites! It was fun playing around with the different color palettes that spring affords.

Linen Shirt | Leather Shoulder Bag | Flute Glasses | Planter | Napkins | Book

Sweatshirt |Baseball Cap | Pants | Crock | Art | Shoes (gifted) | Blue Decorative Planter | Tablecloth | Sweater | Vase | Tank | Shorts

Leo Glass | Wedge Sandal (gifted) | Silver Tray | Linen Dress | Delft Bowl | Cocktail Napkins | Vase | Denim Jacket | Monogrammed Throw| S&P Shakers
Spring Design Board
There isn’t anything quite like the spring sun. It gets me in the mood for all things light and bright. The design board below started light and bright but then I wanted to add some character, contrast, and color. I’m pretty happy with how it is coming along!

Mirror | Stems | Mantel | Sconces | Rug | Coffee Table | Sofas | Chairs
Have a Wonderful Spring!
