Comfortable and Stylish Home: The Kid Spaces

Comfortable & Stylish Home: The Kid Spaces

The kid spaces were incredibly fun to complete! Although I probably should not be calling them kids anymore, I am now of the age where anyone under 25 years old is a “kid.” To be more specific, these kids are all in their tween and teen years.

Older kid spaces are interesting (in the best way) because the kids have generally refined their style and interests. Furniture selections can be made with longevity in mind at this point. But, the details are still (always) personal and fun!

For these spaces, the kids provided great insight and have such definitive styles that at once go with their home and also represent them individually. Their design input shows throughout the house (the fabulous artwork in the sitting room, finding clever ways to hide office supplies, and creating a charming way to display the ping pong paddles in the basement). But, their rooms are truly their own and I could not be happier with how they turned out.

Calm & Modern Bedroom

For the teen girl room, we kept things light and airy. The soft colors with pops of barely there rose colors is just right. Again, this teen chose art that I adore and that immediately grabs your interest. The modern minimalist feel also contributes to the overall calmness of the room. This is the perfect retreat for a busy teen.

Travel-Inspired Bedroom

For this bedroom, we highlighted a love for travel and reading. We purchased four photos above the bed spotlighting this tween’s favorite places. A collected Pacific Coast Highway sign signifies another memorable family trip.

We designated a second area in the room as a reading space by grounding the iconic (lookalike) chair with a plaid rug and floor lamp. A bookshelf is being constructed by the tween’s grandfather to fit under the length of the window. It will be so special to have something handcrafted in this room!

We switched a few things out in the bathroom and I love that he agreed to the tiger-in-a-tub print. Fun art that makes you looks twice is always a great idea!

The Soccer Room

For this tween room, we wanted to showcase a love for soccer without being too themed. We accomplished this by adding elements like the two chairs, bed, and desk that will grow with the tween. And then we were able to lean in to his interests with the rest of the choices. The MCM-inspired posters of all the soccer greats above the bed and the building block stadiums add just the right soccer touch. The green soccer rug incorporates a lively pop of green into the space.
