September Updates

Fall Screened In Porch

Hello and Happy (almost) October! With trips to New York and New Orleans, this month has flown by. Is it possible that fall goes even faster than summer?!? Updates for the month of September include a fall screened in porch, a long weekend in New Orleans, a round up of cozy throw blankets, velvet pillow options, a couple of fall wardrobe items that are currently en route, minimalist makeup, and a book club.

FALL SCREENED IN PORCH

I was able to take some photos of our screened in porch all decorated for fall via The Counting House. I love the different patterns and subtle colors for the transition to fall.

NEW ORLEANS

Hotel Provincial New Orleans

We celebrated my parents’ (almost) 50th wedding anniversary in New Orleans (where they honeymooned). It was the first time our original family of 4 had traveled together in 18 years! I’m happy to report that we are all still good travelers. Our significant others are too! This was R and my 4th time to NOLA. I will be updating past posts to reflect new restaurants we tried as well as the beautiful hotel where we stayed. You can read about where we have stayed on previous trips here and where we have eaten here. Annnnd what we have done here. My brother’s girlfriend summarized the trip perfectly in her post which you can find by clicking here.

Garden District Tour New Orleans

She also set up a Garden District tour with 2 Chicks Walking Tours. It was a highlight of the trip for me! We even saw some celebrity homes.

COZY THROW BLANKETS

Cozy Throw Blankets

Our family cannot seems to have enough cozy throw blankets. And, frankly, they are worth the investment since we use them for 8 months of the year (sometimes even more). For this throw blankets round up, I was specifically looking for something for the end of our bed. There are definite splurges in this round up. (This one in particular would make a beautiful gift.) There are also more reasonably priced throws with great texture and/or subtle patterns.

VELVET PILLOW COVERS

Cozy Velvet Pillow Cases

Velvet pillows feel luxurious and cozy all at once. I recently went down a rabbit hole of trying to find velvet pillows for our bed. I wanted pillows that were versatile enough to work in other rooms of the house too. There is a wide range of prices when it comes to velvet pillows. (Maybe because the quality of velvet varies? I don’t know. I didn’t get that far.) Below is a round up. I ended up purchasing these pillow covers. A full primary bedroom tour is coming soon. I just need to do some styling… and maybe painting… and hang some curtains. You can click the photos below to shop.

FALL OUTFITS

Not only have I been attempting to make our home more cozy for the autumn months, but I also have been looking to add a couple of new cozy outfit pieces into the mix. Here are a few things that are on their way.

City Coat– I love this for fall and into winter. My old coat was worn so often that the lining ripped. And then I still kept wearing it. Needless to say, I love a good camel-colored coat for fall and winter. (Side note: I saved quite a bit by being part of the Passport program. I received an additional discount with a code and then also had saved $15 in points.)

Joggers– Who knew joggers could be so tricky? I do now! I have a pair that are a nice slim fit but that I am constantly pulling up. Another pair I own fits at the waist but are super baggy in the legs. I’m hoping that these joggers are the answer. I ordered them in the long version because I had tried on a regular pair last spring and didn’t love where it hit on my calf. They have a lot of fun colors to choose from! (Because I hadn’t purchased from this company previously, I was able to sign up for emails and get 20% off.)

MINIMALIST MAKEUP

I recently purchased some items from MERIT, a company with a “holistic approach to clean.” I am incredibly happy with the products I purchased. The Blush Balm in Beverly Hills was a quick favorite. It is easy to apply for a touch of color.

The other product I purchased (and love) was the Brow 1980, a pomade for eyebrows. I have a hard time using an eyebrow pencil to achieve a natural look. Brow 1980 was the perfect solution for me.

BOOK CLUB

On our New Orleans trip, I was introduced to Book of the Month (BOTM) club. I get my first book in October so I will keep you posted. I’ve been craving more reading time and I think this may be just the thing to motivate me to get started again.

That’s all for now! Have a wonderful October!!
