Happy New Year 2022!

I hope you all had a nice holiday season! The plaid-on-plaid in the dining room may have put me over the edge. There was a fairly quick clear out of Christmas New Year’s weekend. A few winter items remain though. I thought it might be fun to share a quick list of possible New Year 2022 projects and posts with you this week.

January is always a “get organized” sort of month. I bought these glass storage containers last year. I was nervous about the glass being difficult to keep clean, but so far, so good.

Kitchen Storage and Organization

I also just ordered this kitchen drawer organizer for our silverware. I think replacing the mesh with bamboo will be a small but pretty upgrade. I also ordered an ornament storage bin. We currently have our ornaments in labeled plastic bags (with the year and who they are from), so I’ll just have to figure out how to keep that info in the new system. Oh, and I’ll be trying to bring our laundry/mudroom area back to its former organized glory.

Inexpensive Laundry Room Makeover

I also may get to help with a little office redo at a friend’s house. I can’t wait! She has all the plans and has scored some beautiful lighting (and possibly flooring).

Lighting can make all the difference. The bathroom light in the kids’ bathroom is in definite need of replacement. Our bedroom light could use an upgrade as well. This isn’t super exciting stuff but I think the lighting will help bring the rooms a bit more up to date.

Kids' Bathroom

While we are talking about our bedroom, I would love to add a desk. Currently, I have a stacked and stand-alone filing system. It works but could be prettier. We also have a medicine cabinet that I bought over a year ago that is still boxed and sitting on our floor. (This is beginning to feel like a true confessions sort of post- haha!) I had bought it to switch out in the kids’ bathroom but two professionals suggested keeping the current medicine cabinet. The beveled glass is gorgeous. The inside was gross. Since we had two snow days this past week and were quick to get cabin fever, I used what I had, cleaned, and painted the inside of the cabinet to make it prettier and more useable.

On the topic of bathrooms, ours is in need of a refresh. This has been a tough one for me. I actually love the basketweave flooring. The creamy square tile and green accent tiles seem to be on trend. But, the tile is cracking and even the kids think the shower needs to be replaced. It is a pain for me to clean. Etc., etc. Oh, and have I mentioned that it is a jack-and-jill situation with our son’s room? Yep.

Speaking of our son’s room, we played musical beds, and he now has our daughter’s old full size bed. You can check out the twin bed set up below and in this post. Anyway, I have a headboard (I think this is the correct link) for the bed that has been sitting in our basement. I’m throwing around the idea of using the twin Pendleton comforter to customize the headboard. Or, I could just upgrade to this full size quilt.

Coastal Boy Bedroom

Going downstairs…halfway… our stair runner is getting worn. I don’t know what I was thinking getting a white stair runner with kids, a dog, and us going up and down with coffee every morning. I’m not sure if this is a DIY or something we will need to hire out. We attempted to DIY this stair runner at the cottage.

Beach Cabin Update: Stair Runner Install

The kitchen is still a favorite spot in the house. The kitchen table has endured a lot over the years, including toddler banging and kid paint projects. But, it is the perfect size and I still love the base. I’ll be looking into options for refinishing/replacing the top.

Christmas Kitchen Nook

And finally… the dining room. Oddly, it doesn’t have an ceiling lighting. I may look into updating that. I’m just not sure. It actually doesn’t bother me all that much. We have four sconces throughout the room for night lighting and usually use it for daytime birthdays and other celebrations. The rug on the other hand has seen better days. At what point does a rug become so old that it is considered vintage?

Autumn Dining Room

Oh, I lied! I think that the Beach Cabin is getting painted this year!! Yay! And I decided on the color scheme. My family is a bit skeptical, but I think it’ll be great. Better yet, no one else in the neighborhood has this color combination. I’m excited!

Okay, that’s all for now! Happy New Year!!!
