Kids’ Clothes, A Holiday Mantel & More

Today I’m sharing a sneak peek of our Christmas Mantel, a book that I’m listening to for the second time, a few ideas for kids’ clothes for the winter, a new-to-me brand, a Christmas Cabin wish list, and a favorite hotel. Oh, and I changed the name from Mackinaw Road Mondays to Mackinaw Road Musings, since I rarely seem to be able to actually get the posts out on Mondays.

Christmas Mantel

I shot our Christmas mantel and tree today and am now in the process of editing the photos. I’m hoping to have that post ready to go on Monday. Better late than never. I just thought I’d share a few quick shots in the meantime. Spoiler: I actually am beginning to think it is impossible for me to not decorate with red, green, and plaid.

[Sources (I used a lot of what I already had, so many of these items are “similar” ): green garland (similar), pinecone garland (similar), berry garland (similar), ski lift print , decorative resin tree (The Counting House), white feather tree (similar), taper holders (similar).]

A Book

I decided to listen to Make Life Beautiful on Audible by Syd and Shea McGee. It’s now on repeat in the car. I’m wishing that I had just bought the book (and still might) because there are so many key takeaways above perseverance, dreaming big, and thoughtful pivoting. You can find the book here.

Kids’ Clothes

Our tween recently discovered Abercrombie & Fitch. We were talking at the dinner table about how one of us maybe used to work at Abercrombie in college and our daughter made the connection that the A&F on my sleeve (and some of her friends’ clothing) was the one and the same Abercrombie & Fitch that her parents sometimes spoke of. Anyway, she chose a few articles of clothing (and then I chose some more) to come up with this tween list.

Since we were already on the site, I also put together a little list of kids’ clothes for our 7 (almost 8) year old. He had nothing to do with the list.

A New-to-Me Brand

A new-to-me brand that I recently discovered is Everlane. This company believes in “Radical Transparency.” You can read more about them and their mission here. Moreover, last week, they donated and raised enough money to provide 2.1 million meals to people in need through Feeding America. You can read more about it here. I purchased a couple of these sweaters as gifts…

Christmas Cabin

We may be having some guests stay at the Beach Cabin this holiday season. Naturally, I made a little Christmas Cabin decor board of all the pretty hosting items from Hearth and Hand by Magnolia to both freshen up the space and bring in some holiday cheer.

Viceroy Hotels

One of our favorite December traditions is spending a weekend in Chicago. While we are taking a pause this year, we can’t wait to get back to the city we love sometime in 2021. My favorite place to stay in Chicago is Viceroy. Even when we don’t stay there, we usually pop in for some food next door at Somerset and a quick photo of the always-impressive lobby. Viceroy Hotels is having a giveaway (they have some amazing locations!) to celebrate their 20th anniversary. You can check out all of the details here.

Whew- that was a lot of information. Thanks for sticking with me!!! Have a wonderful weekend!
